Before I get into why I feel it is so important to take this time to work on ourselves, let me define what personal growth is, in my own terms.
Personal growth is, and should be, evolving all the time. Think about a young child and how they take in the world through curiosity, experiences, and love. They are constantly learning and growing emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
Moving through life, each child grows into their own unique personality. They form their own habits, beliefs and values. Each person transforms into who they are throughout their teen years and into their young adulthood.
As adults, we carry a lot of history with us: our choices in life, big and small; the relationships we develop; the work we do; and the children we raise. All of which gives us the tools and resources to continually grow.
We never stop growing. Initially, we become more aware of what is happening all around us. Finally, we are committed to our lives just as they are. In some cases, the commitment is too much, and we end up bailing on something that was once really important to us.
We sacrifice, we compromise, we take chances, or we don’t take chances.
Life is always changing and moving around us.
